COLUMBIA, S.C. – Coming off a 21-14 road win against conference opponent Lane College the Kentucky State football team is headed to Columbia, South Carolina to face the undefeated (7-0, 5-0 SIAC) #8 (AFCA) Benedict College Tigers on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. the game can be watched live on ESPN+.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Since 1999 the Benedict Tigers lead the series 8-9 as they won the last matchup (9/24/22) 40-14. The most recent series win for the Thorobreds came in 2021 at Circle City Classic as the Tigers were defeated 34-28.  
Although this will not be the first time Benedicts Head Coach Chennis Berry has met the Thorobreds this will be the first time that he has met the regime of first year Head Coach Felton Huggins Jr.
RECAPPING WIN AT LANE 
Kentucky State outscored the Lane Dragons 21-0 in the first half to secure a 21-14 conference win. 
The Thorobreds set the tone early as Navy Curry rushed for 10 yards into the endzone to set an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.  
In the second quarter an 85 yard by Isaiah Saleem put the Thorobreds in the redzone that followed with a seven yard rushing touchdown to add 7 to the board. Perez then connected with Markel Cotton for 51 yards before finding Bryce Boby Hayes in the endzone to secure a 21-0 lead at halftime.  
Lane scored twice in the second half but that wasn't enough to overcome the Thorobreds.  
Saleem had a career high night of 138 rushing yards on 28 attempts that included a long of 85 yards. 
Defensive End Hayes proved his versatility by scoring on offense with a two yard reception at the end of the second quarter. 
THOROBREDS RANKED NATIONALLY  
So far this season multiple student-athletes rank high nationally and lead the SIAC, Jeremiah Owens leads the way with two forced fumbles this season to lead the SIAC and rank seventh in the nation. He also ranks nationally averaging 1.8 tackles for a loss per game that puts him 17th in the nation and fourth in the SIAC. Along with being top 40 in the nation and fifth in the SIAC with .75 sacks.  
Both Dontavius Broadnax and Jude Santana lead the SIAC and rank fifth in the nation with one punt return touchdowns. Santana sits in second in the SIAC with 22.2 kickoff returns. 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Benedict Tigers are undefeated (7-0, 5-0 SIAC) and in their last matchup (Oct. 12) the Tigers defeated Fort Valley State 48-6. The American Football Coaches Association has the Tigers ranked #8 in Div. II and 1st in the HBCU Media Poll.  
LOOKING AHEAD
The Thorobreds will continue play on the road against conference opponent Morehouse on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga.
