Men’s Basketball Announces 2021-22 Schedule

FRANKFORT, Ky.- Kentucky State University Athletics and head men's basketball coach Jamaal Jackson announce the 2021-22 season schedule.

"Our two exhibition games will be against some very tough competition, and they'll definitely get us prepared for the regular season." Head Coach Jackson said. The Thorobreds will open an exhibition play on Friday, October 29; the Thorobreds will play the University of Louisville Cardinals at 7 p.m. at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. "Last year, they were the last team out of the NCAA Tournament and definitely would've been selected had they not had to cancel so many games, so we know how tough they are. One of our guys played with El Ellis last season, and former Thorobred Steve Reece was Mike James' high school and AAU coach." Head Coach Jackson said about his first exhibition contest. The final exhibition will play against Morehead State University on Thursday, November 4 at 7 p.m. in Morehead, Kentucky.
"Morehead State won the OVC last year and was an NCAA Tournament team. They return their top 3 scorers, so that game will also be beneficial in preparing us for the regular season." Head Coach Jackson said about his final exhibition contest.

The Thorobreds will begin their season at home on Wednesday, November 17, at 8 p.m. against Wilberforce University. "We open up with Wilberforce University at home. I'm familiar with their Head Coach, Mark Mitchell, and the types of teams he puts together." Head Coach Jackson said.

Following their home opener, the Thorobreds will open road play to Tiffin University (Ohio) on Saturday, November 20 at 3 p.m. in Tiffin, Ohio.

Tuesday, November 23 at noon, the Thorobreds will host Ohio Dominican University as Kentucky State Athletics welcomes the support of Frankfort Independent School.

Head Coach Jackson is looking forward to league play," The SIAC will be extremely competitive, as it is every year. Because of CoVid, players were able to retain eligibility from 2020-21 the season, meaning many teams will have players that have been together for 3-5 years.

That'll make for some very prepared and cohesive teams that we'll be going up against." Head Coach Jackson said.

League play will begin on Saturday, November 27, on the road at Fort Valley State at 3 p.m., followed by a stop at Clark Atlanta on Monday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m.

There will be a non-conference contest at home versus Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, December 4, inside the William Exum Center at 3 p.m. This will be a challenge for the Thorobreds," Elizabeth City State University out of the CIAA, an extremely tough DII conference," Head Coach Jackson said.

The Thorobreds will host Bluefield State on New Year's Eve Friday, December 31, against Bluefield State inside the Willian Exum Center, with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.

Regular season play will end at home on Tuesday, February 22, against Oakwood University; the game is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The 2022 SIAC Men's Basketball Championship will begin Monday, February 28, through Saturday, March 5, in Spring Hill, South Carolina.

Single game and season tickets will go on sale shortly.

While attending games inside the William Exum Center all spectators will be required to wear mask.
