SAVANNAH, Ga. – Despite a game-high 21 points from Sean Paige and a late push that cut the deficit to single digits, Kentucky State fell 80-72 to Savannah State on Saturday.
Kentucky State's Sean Paige went 7-of-11 at the free-throw line to lead all scorers with 21 points. His teammate Gregory Melvin led the contest with 10 rebounds, including nine on the defensive end.
The Tigers led the first half for more than 15 minutes, and in the final minute, they scored on a fast break to take a 13-point, 38-27 lead with 41 seconds remaining.
Keon Henderson converted his three-point play at the end of the half to help close the gap on Savannah State's 38-28 lead.
With a pair of back-to-back field goals, Savannah State took a 15-point, 43-28 lead at the 19:08 mark of the second half.
Paige cut the Tigers' lead to single digits with a three-point play at 5:05, bringing the Thorobreds within seven points, 62-55.
Savannah State held off Kentucky State to secure an 80-72 win.
