Frankfort, Ky.—Kentucky State University dropped the third and final game of the three-game series with SIAC East Division-leading Albany State University, 8-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The Thorobreds (18-32, 12-9) finished the 2017 season as the No. 2 team in the SIAC western division and will now await to see how the eastern division shapes up for days and game times of the conference tournament. On the year, KSU took four and seven series against conference opponents, including sweeps of LeMoyne-Owen College and Lane College.

The Golden Rams got to sophomore starting pitcher
Joshua Owsley in the first inning, as he allowed three consecutive two-out singles, driving in a run, putting KSU in a 1-0 hole. ASU came back in the second inning with another two-out rally, accounting for three runs and a 4-0 lead.

KSU answered in the bottom half of the second as sophomore first baseman
Cameron Starks and senior designated hitter
Tyler Swisher reached base via walks. Freshman left fielder
Cameron Hughes followed through with a RBI bloop single to left field, driving in Starks from second base, chipping away at the ASU lead at 4-1.

In the fourth, ASU kept playing add on against Owsley, pushing two more runs across for a 6-1 advantage. But, in the bottom of the fourth, KSU kept lingering. Senior second baseman
Brandon Kelley walked, and Swisher singled to right field. With two outs, junior center fielder
Elijah Collins knocked in Kelley with a RBI single to center, bringing KSU within four at 6-2.

Freshman pitcher
Connor Kelley came in relief of Owesley in the fifth, ending his day with the loss. Kelley pitched four frames allowing runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Senior pitcher Eric Anderson came in to pitch the ninth inning for KSU, throwing a scoreless inning of work.

KSU was held scoreless from the fifth to ninth, for a final score of 8-2.

Justin Stinson and
Brandon Kelley led the way for the Thorobreds' lineup as each of them recorded multi-hit games.
