ATLANTA - Although overcoming an early eight-run, first-inning deficit with seven runs in the fourth inning, Kentucky State baseball fell 16-12 to Clark Atlanta on Sunday.
The Thorobreds led the afternoon with 17 hits.
Haruta Endo led the charge with four hits in six at-bats, including one double, to lead both teams with five RBIs.
Ryan Campbell led the contest with two doubles, going 3-for-4 at the plate while leading the Thorobreds with three runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Clark Atlanta got off to a fast start in the opening inning, using a triple and a home run to take an 8-0 lead.
At the top of the third inning,
Jonathan Padgett singled into right field to bring home
Preston Jones for the Thorobreds' first run of the contest.
Haruta Endo capped the inning with a single through the left side to bring in both
Kendall Garland and
Ryan Campbell to close on the 8-3 Clark Atlanta advantage.
The Thorobreds' fourth-inning surge was ignited by a pair of back-to-back walks that allowed both Jones and Brady Woolridge to cross home. Endo continued his dominance at the plate with a double into left that brought in
Ryan Campbell, Garland and Padgett to tie the game at 8-8. A pair of singles from
Logan Christophel and
Cameron McDonald added two runs, giving Kentucky State a 10-8 lead.
Not only did the Panthers tie the game, but they regained an 11-10 lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
A single followed by a two-run home run extended the Panthers' lead to 14-10 through five innings.
Braylen Duncan singled into left field to bat in McDonald, adding one run for the Thorobreds at the top of the sixth. The Panthers responded with a two-run home run to extend their lead, 16-11.
The final run for both teams came at the top of the seventh as Garland grounded to second base, allowing Campbell to score. Clark Atlanta maintained its lead to defeat Kentucky State 16-12.

Kentucky State will return to the Bluegrass and host Shawnee State on Tuesday, April 21. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
