Greg Alexander each recorded a RBI single in the bottom half of the ninth for the Thorobreds, but it was not enough to mount a comeback for the home team.
Connor Kelley lost his first game on the mound for KSU, giving up nine earned runs in six innings of action.
Brandon Kelley drove in a team-high two RBIs off an impressive 3-for-4 performance at the plate while Alexander went 2-for-4 with a RBI of his own for the Thorobreds.
KSU will host a doubleheader against Urbana University Saturday at noon.
