Frankfort, Ky. – Kentucky State University baseball suffered a 12-5 loss to West Virginia State University to wrap up a three-game series Saturday afternoon.

After falling to an early 1-0 deficit in the first inning, KSU (4-16) was able to tie the game in the bottom half of the second frame after senior first baseman Josh Dunn hit into a double-play that scored sophomore outfielder Jay Poullard, who reached on a walk earlier in the inning.

The Yellow Jackets went on to score eight unanswered runs in the next four innings until senior second baseman Brandon Kelley singled to drive in sophomore outfielder Cameron Starks from first base to make the score 9-2.

Poullard drove in the home squad's third run of the afternoon, crushing a RBI single to left field to score senior third baseman Brandon Story to shave the lead to six.

KSU allowed three more runs heading into the bottom of the ninth as they trailed 12-3 into their final at-bat. Senior second baseman Brandon Kelley and junior catcher Greg Alexander each recorded a RBI single in the bottom half of the ninth for the Thorobreds, but it was not enough to mount a comeback for the home team.

Connor Kelley lost his first game on the mound for KSU, giving up nine earned runs in six innings of action. Brandon Kelley drove in a team-high two RBIs off an impressive 3-for-4 performance at the plate while Alexander went 2-for-4 with a RBI of his own for the Thorobreds.

KSU will host a doubleheader against Urbana University Saturday at noon.
