COLUMBIA, S.C. — Kentucky State University's track and field teams turned in a strong showing at the 2025 SIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship, with the men's team placing sixth overall and the women's team finishing eighth.
Sprinter
Yumana Lofton led the Thorobreds with a pair of silver medals, clocking 20.73 seconds to place second in the men's 200-meter dash and posting a time of 10.34 seconds for second in the 100 meters. The men's 4x400-meter relay team,
Joshua Merriweather,
Ernest Chambers,
Demarreon Green and
Justin Smith, earned a seventh-place finish in 3:21.56.
On the women's side, the 4x100-meter relay team of Aleczandrea Coffie,
Jaaliyah Biggers, MyRajah Rankin and
Zhakeya Hawkins placed fifth in 48.41 seconds. Rankin added a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters (58.44) and a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters (25.06). Rankin also helped the 4x400-meter relay team, along with Hawkins, Iyanna Thompson-Carson and
Hailey Tucker, to a fourth-place finish in 4:04.77.
In field events,
Andrew Bownes led the men's team with a fifth-place finish in the discus (139 feet, 3 inches) and a seventh-place showing in the shot put (44-6.75).
Nigel Cochran was sixth in the men's pole vault (11-9.75) and placed fourth in the triple jump (46-1.25).
The men's high jump saw strong performances with finishing fourth
Bryson Carpenter and Jeremiah Reed in fifth, respectively, both clearing 6' 4.75".
On the women's side,
Zhakeya Hawkins earned fifth place in the pole vault with a clearance of 7' 6.5", while Ariana Simmons followed closely in sixth at 7' 0.75".
