LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky State Track and Field opened the 2026 HBCU Indoor Track and Field Championships with a pair of meet records, led by
Jaaliyah Biggers' win in the women's long jump and the women's 4x200-meter relay team, both of which claimed national titles.
Biggers set the meet record in the women's long jump with a mark of 17 feet and 6.25 inches to claim the title. Teammate Aleczandrea Coffie finished second with a personal-best jump of 16 feet and 5.25 inches.
In the women's 4x200-meter relay, the quartet of
Bailiy Graham,
Tahja Mims, Zahkeya Hawkins and Amoni Glenn captured first place with a meet-record and season-best time of 1:42.61.
Kentucky State also saw strong performances in the women's middle-distance events.
Lenayah Thomas finished in 2:35.66, while
Laila Jackson posted a season-best time of 2:35.95.
Kylie Hollis recorded a personal-best time of 2:39.13.
On the men's side,
Shamond McClain placed third in the long jump with a mark of 21 feet and 10.75 inches, while
Brayden Wilson finished fifth with a jump of 20 feet and 6.25 inches.
In the men's weight throw,
Andrew Bownes earned third place with a personal-best mark of 46 feet and 10 inches, and
Dewayne Davis placed fifth with a throw of 46 feet and 6.25 inches.
The men's 4x200-meter relay team of T. Turner, Jammon Avery,
Jeremiah Preston and
Jaelen Griffin finished third with a season-best time of 1:28.75.
Up Next
Several Kentucky State athletes also advanced to finals scheduled for tomorrow.
Jaelen Griffin qualified for the men's 60 meters final with a personal-best time of 7.05 seconds. In the men's 60-meter hurdles, Jadon Wright secured a spot in the final after clocking 8.54 seconds.
Jeremiah Preston advanced in the men's 400 meters with a season-best time of 50.23 seconds.
On the women's side,
Tahja Mims (59.92) and Iyanna Thompson-Carson (1:06.73) both moved on to the women's 400-meter final. In the women's 800 meters, Kentucky State will send three runners to the final, led by
Lenayah Thomas (2:35.66),
Laila Jackson with a season-best 2:35.95, and
Kylie Hollis, who recorded a personal-best 2:39.13.
The final day of events will begin at noon inside of the Norton Sports and Learning and Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
