NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky State men's and women's track and field teams each claimed team titles Friday at the Asbury Invitational, highlighted by multiple event wins across sprints, hurdles, relays and field events.
On the track, the Thorobreds secured first-place finishes in both relays, winning the women's 4x100-meter relay (49.39) and sweeping the 4x400 relays, with the women clocking 4:02.83 and the men 3:27.25. Individually,
Jada Murry won the women's 100-meter hurdles (16.16), while Jadon Wright took the men's 110-meter hurdles (15.09) and added a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles (58.88).
Hailey Tucker captured the women's 400-meter hurdles title in 1:09.13.
In the sprints,
Bailiy Graham led a strong showing in the women's 100-meter dash with a winning time of 12.39, followed by Aleczandria Coffie (third, 12.65), Samiyah Rembert (fifth, 12.82), Dearra Spears (sixth, 13.08) and Alycia Triplett (eighth, 13.35).
Tahja Mims added a win in the women's 200-meter dash (25.10), while
Yumana Lofton took the men's 200-meter title (21.21). Tajay Taylor paced the men's 400-meter dash with a first-place finish (49.29), followed by
Jeremiah Preston (second, 49.50). Zahkeya Hawkins won the women's 400-meter dash (1:00.22), with
Armoni Glenn (third, 1:02.37) and
Lenayah Thomas (sixth, 1:03.39) also scoring.
In middle distance,
Darris Ivy claimed the men's 800-meter run title (1:59.10), while
Laila Jackson (fifth, 2:30.97) and
Lenayah Thomas (seventh, 2:40.70) competed in the women's event. The men's 100-meter dash saw
Jaelen Griffin (fourth, 10.77),
Gavianni Wright (seventh, 10.97) and
Kenny Scott (10th, 11.16) contribute points.
Kentucky State also dominated the field events.
Ariana Simmons won the women's javelin (30.72 meters), while
Andrew Bownes captured titles in both the men's shot put (13.78 meters) and discus (46.75 meters).
Dewayne Davis finished second in both the men's hammer throw (34.25 meters) and discus (44.32 meters), and added a runner-up finish in the shot put (13.49 meters).
Shanell Laws placed second in the women's shot put (10.70 meters), third in the discus (29.76 meters) and sixth in the hammer throw (30.65 meters).
In the jumps,
Jaaliyah Biggers led a sweep on the women's side, winning the long jump (5.52 meters) and triple jump (10.17 meters), while Aleczandria Coffie placed second in the long jump (5.31 meters). On the men's side,
Shamond McClain won the triple jump (15.25 meters) and placed second in the long jump (6.38 meters), with
Brayden Wilson finishing second in the triple jump (14.06 meters) and third in the long jump (6.32 meters).
Jalen Silver added a third-place finish in the triple jump (12.75 meters).
Additional field results included
Tamoni Compton (fourth, 22.42 meters) and
Shanell Laws (fifth, 21.08 meters) in the women's javelin,
Jeremy Miller (fourth, 39.51 meters),
Dewayne Davis (fifth, 33.69 meters) and
Anthony Jackson (sixth, 32.76 meters) in the men's javelin, and Zara Rowell finishing second in the women's high jump (1.50 meters).
