Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State baseball team clashed with the Miami-Hamilton Harriers and came out on top 13-12 at home on Tuesday.
Jayden Clark homered in the sixth, fifth and second innings to earn a a career high of three home runs in a single game. He also batted in eight runners a new season and career high.
In the third and fourth at bats Miami-Hamilton took an early 2-0 lead.
Collier Higgs answered with a with double into right field that plated
Kelton Saylor and
Parker White to tie the game 2-2 at the end of the first inning.
Leading off at the bottom of the second Clark homered into center field to gain a 3-2 Kentucky State lead through two innings.
Both Mitchell Cedrick Poellnitz II scored in the third inning, Mitchell on a passed ball and Poellnitz II on a wild pitch.
The Harriers scored to runs in the fourth inning to close on the Thorobreds lead.
In the fifth inning Clark homered in left field to bat add three tuns extend the Kentucky State lead to 8-4 at the end of the fifth.
At the top of the sixth Miami-Hamilton added seven runs to take the lead briefly. Kentucky State responded with a grand slam to regain a 12-11 Kentucky State lead.
At the bottom of the seventh
Kelton Saylor scored the final run for Kentucky State on a passed ball.
A home run in the eighth inning by the Harriers was not enough to retake the lead.
Collins, Clark and Poellnitz all led Kentucky State with three runs each. Saylor and Clark led the Thorobreds with three hits.
Kentucky State will head to Columbia, South Carolina for a three-game series with SIAC opponent Benedict beginning on March 16 with a doubleheader.
