Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Fl. – On Friday afternoon, the Kentucky State baseball team split their doubleheader at Edward Waters in Jacksonville, Florida.
Game 1: Edward Waters 7, Kentucky State 6
Edward Waters scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth and won the first game of the doubleheader 7-6.
The Tigers scored an unearned run in the first inning to score the first runs of the day.
Joseph Esparza proved why he was the SIAC player of the week with a three-run home run that sent
Kelton Saylor,
Tre Brown, and himself across home plate. The massive scoring play gave the Thorobreds a 3-1 lead after five innings.
In the seventh inning, the Tigers scored three runs to a 4-3 lead at the end of the seventh inning.
Brown singled to right field to send
A.J. Jackson home to tie the game 4-4 in the eighth inning.
Kentucky State continued to fight, beginning with a single by
Jace Wilson, allowing Esparza to score. An error by Edward Waters gave the Thorobreds an unearned run and a 6-4 lead going into the bottom of the ninth.
A three-run play by the Tigers at the bottom of the ninth led to a 7-6 Edward Waters victory.
Game 2: Edward Waters 3, Kentucky State 6
A home run by
Daniel Moore in the seventh inning sent Cedric Poelinitz, Wilson, and himself home to secure a 6-3 Kentucky State victory.
In the first inning, Brown was put out by an infield ground ball that allowed his teammate
Kevin Brown to score. The Tigers responded at the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1.
Edward waters scored their final two runs of the afternoon to take a 3-1 lead after three innings.
An error by the Tigers allowed Saylor to reach first base and K. Brown to score unearned and come within one of the 3-2 Edward Waters lead.
A double by Wilson batted in teammate
John Hidgon to tie the game at 3-3. Moore followed with a three-run home, leading to a 6-3 victory after seven.
