FRANKFORT, Ky.  – Four local students from Frankfort High School have chosen Kentucky State as the site of their senior internships for their first semester of the school year.

During their internship, the students have the valuable opportunity to shadow professionals in Athletic Administration and Athletic Training. "Having the opportunity to have students from Frankfort High School intern with us for the year has been great! They have been very helpful assisting with day-to-day tasks and game days. We truly cannot wait to see what the future has in store for this group." said Christian Flowers.

Students Jaleia Hatchett and Sam Gilbert work in the Athletics Administration office with KSU's Sports Information Director, Christian Flowers. "It's great to get the firsthand experience of gameday preparations and how we push out gameday information to the public. I have been able to receive a lot of valuable information that will help me prepare for a career in athletics," says Gilbert.

"I've really enjoyed attending all the sporting events and learning the various tasks that are needed to make them run smoothly. So much more goes into each game than what you initially notice, and I have a new perspective and appreciation for the work of those in athletics," Jaleia Hatchett said regarding her work this semester.

The other two students chose to explore work in sports medicine and athletic training. Each day, they assist the athletic trainers with their regular tasks. "I find it interesting to observe the rehabilitation process of injured athletes and have enjoyed experiencing the role that athletic trainers have in that recovery," Matthew Weimer, senior at Frankfort High, states.

"It's great getting to see an up-close view of what goes on," says senior Hagan Schoolfield. "Some days are busy, while others are slower, but I now have a better understanding of what all this job entails. This was exactly the internship I wanted to explore my interests in this field."

Kentucky State University Athletics opens their office to seniors in the surrounding area to give them valuable experiences in the field of collegiate athletics.
