FRANKFORT, Ky. – Head Coach Felton Huggins Jr. and Kentucky State football partners with W.E.B Du Bois Middle School mentorship and leadership program.
 
The Growth and Guidance Program provides an opportunity for sixth graders to meet with faculty and student-athletes. Students in the program receive help from Kentucky State football student-athletes on team building exercise along with Q&A sessions.
 
"As a Thorobred student athlete we always look forward to giving back to the community. This event gives us the opportunity to help bridge the gap and guide the youth in the pursuit of academic endeavors. While also letting them know that they can be successful in other avenues besides sports." graduate student Jaylen Johnson said.
 
Head coach Felton Huggins Jr. and his team have a focus on giving back to others. "Our biggest pillar within our football program F.A.M.I.L.Y. (Forget About Me I Love You), so when the opportunity presented itself for our players to help teach and build up our youth, they ran at the opportunity to help support this event. I'm so proud of our players for helping with this event and Coach Rushin for bridging the gap connecting our student athletes and university with our young children in the community. Opportunities like this go a long ways in continuing to teach our youth how to strive for excellence not just on the field but off of it as well." Huggins said.
