Box Score 3 MONTGOMERY, AL – A three-game winning streak secures Kentucky State Baseball as the NCAA DII Champions sending them to the Championship of the 2022 Tyson Foods Black College World Series at the Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.
Game 2: Kentucky State 5, Bluefield State 2 – May 12, 2022
In a win-or-go-home game with Bluefield State, the Thorobreds came out on top with a 5-2 victory.
Kelton Saylor led the day off by reaching home on a fielder's choice giving his team a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
Antonio Chambers went homered to left field, sending himself
Collier Higgs home to give Kentucky State a 3-0 lead at the end of three innings.
Byron Famble added an unearned run extending the Thorobreds lead to 4-0 after four innings.
The day's final run came from a single by
Josh Graves to right field, sending Chambers home in the fifth inning. Kentucky State gave up only two runs in the end to win the game 5-2.
Game 2: Kentucky State 5, Albany State 4 – May 13, 2022
Friday morning began with a lengthy 12 inning battle with the Albany State Golden Rams as the Thorobreds rallied to overcome Albany State 5-4 in 12 innings.
The Golden Rams allowed Kentucky State to score their first run on a single by Saylor, batting in
Aram Kumar to close on the 4-1 Albany State lead after eight innings.
A ninth-inning rally sent the game into extra innings; Kumar led off the run with a single, batting
Daniel Moore. Chambers singled to the left side, sending Kumar home to score the tying run of 4-4 and send the game into extra innings.
Thompson secured the win on a walk-off home run giving Kentucky State a 5-4 victory and advancing them to the Division II Finals.
Game 3: Kentucky State 12, Miles 7 – May 13, 2022
The Thorobreds secured the title for the NCAA Division and punched their ticket to the 2022 Black College World Series with a 12-7 win against Miles College.
Chambers hit a sacrifice fly into right field, sending his teammate Saylor across home, giving Kentucky State a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
The second inning scoring run began with Saylor's single-line drive to center field, who batted in Kumar. Chambers doubled on a line drive to center field, batting in
Jared Pierce and Saylor.
Roby Schank singled on a line drive to right field, batting in Chambers. Thompson scored when the Golden Bears walked Moore. Kumar singled on a line drive to center, batting in both Schank and Famble to give the Thorobreds a 9-0 lead at the end of the second inning.
At the top of the third inning, Moore was walked, allowing Thompson to score, sending Kentucky to a 10-0 lead.
Saylor scored on a line-drive single to left field by Thompson in the eighth inning.
Kumar singled to the center-field batting in Famble to put the dagger in the Golden Bears and gave Kentucky State a 12-7 victory.
