Box Score 3 Memphis, Tenn. – Kentucky State Baseball added two league wins in a doubleheader sweep of the LeMoyne Owen Magicians to extend their conference record to 8-5.
Game 1
The Thorobreds scored ten runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Magicians 15-2.
Dom Lawson hit a home run into left field, scoring the day's first run.
Antonio Chambers singled on the ground to left field in the top of the sixth inning, sending
Adren Thompson across home plate.
Jared Pierce doubled on a pop fly to left field, allowing his teammates Chambers and
Roby Schank to score and give Kentucky State a 4-0 lead.
Kelton Saylor added a run in the seventh inning, giving Kentucky State a 5-1 lead.
Kentucky State went on a strong run early in the eighth inning, beginning with a single by
Collier Higgs batting in Pierce. Higgs scored on an error, adding the second run of the inning. Saylor stole home to add another run. Chambers doubled on a hard ground ball to left field, sending Thompson, Schank, and Famble home. Pierce singled to right field, batting in Chambers. Lawson batted in Kumar and Pierce. The day's final run would come from a double by Saylor, sending Lawson home.
Game 2
Kentucky State continued their momentum into the second game defeating the Magicians 10-5.
Saylor batted Pierce in to score the first run of the day in the top of the first inning.
The Thorobreds added two runs in the second inning. The first run came from a line drive to the right-field by Pierce, sending Famble across home plate. Lawson followed with a double on a line drive to left field, sending Kumar and Pierce across the plate. Higgs hit a sacrifice fly into the right field, allowing Lawson to score.
Lawson tripled to the center field early in the fourth inning, allowing Pierce to score. Higgs sacrificed to left field, sending Lawson across home plate.
In the sixth inning, Saylor sacrificed to the pitcher, allowing Lawson to score.
The final two runs came in the seventh inning, a double play sent Famble home, and Chambers scored on a passed ball.
Lawson earned four hits in four at-bats during the contest, and Famble tallied two hits in three at-bats.
Game 3
A late push in the third game sent Kentucky State to a 7-4 victory to close out the weekend with the sweep.
The Thorobreds scored their only run through five innings, a single by Saylor batting in Lawson.
The Magicians would take a 4-1 lead through fiving innings, with the Thorobreds coming to within one at the top of the sixth inning. Pierce singled on a line a drive to the left-field sending Chambers home. Lawson singled on a line drive to the left-field batting in Kumar.
In the eighth inning, a grand slam by Higgs sent the Thorobreds to a 7-4 victory and a clean sweep of the Magicians.
