FRANKFORT – The Kentucky State baseball team will travel to Jackson, Tennessee, for a weekend doubleheader series against SIAC opponent Lane College. The first doubleheader will begin at noon CT and the second contest will follow at 3 p.m. CT from the Ballpark at Jackson on Saturday, March 13th.
The success has started early for the Thorobreds with a 4-0 undefeated start to their 2021 campaign. They began with a 5-3 and 7-4 road sweep of the Salem Tigers. The Thorobreds returned to Frankfort and swept Alice Lloyd 8-3 in the first contest and 9-2 in the final contest.
The Thorobred's strong offensive performance was led by Junior
Aram Kumar, who is leading his team with a stout batting average of .556.
There is depth within the Kentucky State Bullpen, with multiple student-athletes securing wins early this season. Graduate Student
Brady Bibbs has pitched 13 innings and has kept 49 batters to a .224 batting average. Junior
Dashawn Hureskin pitched seven innings against Allice Lloyd, where he held 27 batters to a .148 batting average and secured the win for the Thorobreds.
Ranked
The Black College Nines HBCU Top 10 Baseball Polls ranked the Kentucky State baseball team first in the Small School Polls for week one. The Black College Nines previously ranked the Thorobreds second, and the strong start has allowed them to move into first place.
A Glance at the Dragons
The Lane Dragons are off to a 2-5 start for the 2021 season. They are returning to play after a strong 13-7 win against Rust College. Since April 4th, 2012, the Dragons have a 1-24 record against the Thorobreds, securing their first win in their last matchup (3/24/19), defeating the Thorobreds 10-8.
