Box Score PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Senior
Kevin Givhan's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Kentucky State University baseball team to the 4-3 win over Clark Atlanta in the final game of the 2020 Peachtree Baseball Classic.
Givhan (Chicago, Ill.) was the only Kentucky State player with multiple hits as seven different players recorded a hit in the win.
Kentucky State University (2-2) travels to Voorhees College Saturday for a three-game non-conference series. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday before capping the series with a game Sunday.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Freshman
Jonathan Morris, 2-0, (Georgetown, Ky.) picked up his second win of the season, hurling two innings of one-hit relief. He struck out three with two walks. Junior
Dom Lawson (Bloomfield, Ky.) allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings of work. He struck out a career-high 13 in his first start of the year.
Freshman
Kelton Saylor (Rossville, Ind.) and sophomore
Josh Graves (Springfield, Ky.) added RBI in the Kentucky State victory. Saylor scored two of the Thorobreds' four runs.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior Adren Thompson (Lexington, Ky.) had Kentucky State's lone extra-base hit, a fifth-inning double.
- With 16 strikeouts, Kentucky State recorded 59.2 percent (16-of-27) of its outs via strikeout.
- Despite the fact Clark Atlanta is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the game was a non-conference meeting.
- Kentucky State scored three runs over the first three innings, but CAU pulled even with a three-run sixth inning.
- Graves hit .461 (6-of-13) with three runs scored and three RBI during the four-game baseball classic.
