Box Score
Lexington, Ky.—Kentucky State University baseball dropped a non-conference contest to Asbury University, 8-1 on Wednesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, the home of Lexington Legends professional ball club.
Â
The Thorobreds (16-31, 10-8) have now lost five consecutive games dating back to Apr. 15 when they finalized a sweep of Lane College at home. KSU lost a previous contest to AU, 10-4 on Mar. 16. Â
Â
Junior catcher
Greg Alexander put the Thorobreds on the board first with a first-inning double, scoring
Elijah Collins from second base for a 1-0 advantage. Before Alexander's RBI knock, senior pitcher
Josh Dunn pitched a perfect first inning, before being lifted in the second inning for junior
Justin Stinson.
Â
The Eagles struck against Stinson in the top of the second inning for four runs, taking a 4-1 lead. Starting pitcher Will McDonald proceeded to shut the Thorobreds' offense down, not allowing a hit in the second, third, and fourth innings, and kept the host without scoring for his next seven innings of work.
Â
Stinson pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up seven earned runs, and earning his fifth loss of the season.
Â
In the bottom of ninth, seniors
Tyler Swisher and
Brandon Kelley came off the bench, each collecting a hit against pitcher Chase Martin. On the season, in limited playing time, Swisher has accounted for three hits, all singles, in four plate appearances.
Â
KSU will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series beginning on Saturday at home against Albany State University.
