Box Score
Frankfort, Ky.—Kentucky State University baseball finished off the three-game series with Lane College, with a 12-6 victory completing a sweep of the visiting Dragons on Saturday afternoon.
The Thorobreds (16-25, 10-5) remain as the No. 2 seed in the SIAC West Division with the win, and the sweep is the second of the season for KSU against conference opponents. In four conference series, the Thorobreds have won three; their only series loss came against Paine College in the first SIAC series of the season.
KSU fell behind in the first as LC pushed across a run, but tied it up with sophomore outfielder
Jay Poullard scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second.
The Dragons jumped on sophomore starting pitcher
Joshua Owsley in the third for four runs, three earned, knocking him from the game. But, the Thorobreds' offense answered by playing comeback baseball in the later innings.
Junior shortstop
Justin Stinson recorded a run-scoring triple, followed by a run-scoring double from Poullard, bringing KSU within two at 5-3 heading into the fourth with freshman pitcher
Connor Kelley coming in relief of Owsley.
KSU proceeded to add six more runs through the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings for a 9-5 lead as Kelley kept the Dragons in check. He finished his day throwing six innings, while only giving up a single run on a home run in the eighth with KSU holding a solid lead, and added three more runs in the ninth for a 12-6 victory.
Poullard led the offense as he went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, notching his fourth game this season of three hits or more. Kelley picked up his second win of the season and his first coming out of the bullpen.
Junior center fielder
Elijah Collins had a career day on the base paths as he swiped five stolen bases while drawing four walks, and scoring three runs. Collins currently ranks in the top 15 nationally in NCAA Division II in stolen bases with 26.
Next up, KSU will play Cedarville University on Wednesday in Cincinnati, Ohio as a part of the Reds Urban Youth Academy. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm ET.
