Murray, Ky.—Kentucky State University baseball suffered a 22-0 setback on the road to Division I Ohio Valley Conference member Murray State University on Thursday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Thorobreds (4-13) have been on the road since Feb.21 and have gone 1-5 over the stretch but have been playing high-caliber opponents during the run. The Racers (6-2) have jumped out of the gate to begin their 2017 campaign including a 2-0 victory over No. 13 ranked Louisiana-Lafayette.
"Kevin (Moulder) does an excellent job with his program at Murray," said head coach
Rob Henry. "Their hitters hit some good pitches early and put us back on our heels at the beginning of the ballgame, and we never recovered. Their pitchers did a great job of commanding multiple pitches for strikes and never let us get into a rhythm offensively. He's got a nice ball club that stands to make some noise in the OVC this year."
Senior third baseman
Brandon Story continued to shine against top notch pitching as he was the lone Thorobred to collect more than one hit in the loss. Story went 2-for-4 with two singles from the three hole in the lineup.
Sophomore designated hitter
Jay Poullard and freshman right fielder
Cameron Hughes each went 1-for-3.
Chae Butler (0-2) was slated with the loss as he started the game for KSU, throwing just one inning of work.
The Thorobreds will be at home this weekend as West Virginia State University will visit the Capitol City for a three-game series spanning from Saturday to Sunday. Saturday will feature a doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. ET.
