Augusta, Ga,-- After suffering only its second shutout of the season on Saturday the Kentucky State University offense came alive on Sunday with an 8-2 victory over Paine College at Lions Field. Â
The Thorobreds (7-20, 1-2) came away with their first conference win of the season as they accumulated 11 hits against the east division leading Lions.

Joshua Owsley gave us the start we needed for six innings, and
Matthew Oxford came in at 4-2 in the 7th and pitched three scoreless innings for the save. The defense was solid, and the offense put up a couple of big innings to keep control of the game. Proud of a lot of guys for stepping up big today to earn a good team win."
KSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a RBI single by sophomore catcher
Bryan Wilson, driving in
Jay Poullard from third. Freshman right fielder
Cameron Hughes followed two batters later with a two-RBI single to right field, scoring Wilson and freshman designated hitter
Matthew Oxford. KSU added another run to take a 4-0 advantage heading into the third.
The fifth inning was the only time the Lions managed to put a dent into sophomore pitcher
Joshua Owsley's armor, as he allowed two runs, none earned, cutting the KSU lead in half at 4-2.
Owsley pitched another scoreless inning, wrapping up his day at six innings pitched, while only allowing five hits and striking out three.
The Thorobreds added four more insurances runs in the ninth for an 8-2 final. Oxford pitched three scoreless innings for his first career save.
Junior shortstop
Justin Stinson settled into the leadoff spot, going 3-for-5 on the afternoon to lead the Thorobreds, while senior third baseman
Brandon Story drove in a team-high two RBIs on a 2-for-5 day from the plate.
It'll be a quick turnaround for the Thorobreds as they'll head to Ohio to take on Miami University (Hamilton) on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 3:00 pm ET.
