Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. --Â The Kentucky State baseball team let a win slip away by giving up five runs in the final inning of their contest against the Miles College Golden Bears on Saturday. The Thorobreds fell, 9-6, in SIAC match-up that kicks off a three-game weekend series between the two teams. They will be back on the field tomorrow for a doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 p.m.

Kentucky State (1-17, 0-4 SIAC) picked up a pair of runs in the first inning but Miles (6-8, 2-2 SIAC) struck back with three of their own in the top of the second to take a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Kentucky State starting second baseman
Kyle Clark smashed a double into left centerfield that scored
Reginald Grimes II to tie the game at 3-3. Clark went 2-for-4 on Saturday, finishing with one RBI and two runs scored.

Justin Cain closed out the top of the fourth inning in impressive fashion when he fully laid out to make a spectacular catch in right field.

KSU picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when a bases loaded walk brought home
Austin Railey and then
Josh O'Reel scored on a Cain groundout to second.

After beginning the sixth inning trailing 6-3, the Golden Bears went on to score the final six runs of the game.

Miles got one of those runs in the top of the sixth inning when leadoff hitter Aaron Williams singled to score starting pitcher Justin Bartley from third.

Before the start of the seventh and final inning, starting third baseman O'Reel (0-1) took the mound to attempt to close out the game for the Thorobreds. With a 6-4 lead O'Reel retired the first MC batter but things unraveled quickly for KSU after that. The Golden Bears picked up four hits and five runs in the final inning to go ahead 9-3.

In the bottom of the inning the Thorobreds couldn't get anything going and Miles held on for the comeback victory.

Starting pitcher
AJ Garza-Hall pitched six solid innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs. He struck out three Miles batters while allowing three walks.

Bartley (1-0) picked up the win for the Golden Bears pitching a seven inning complete game. He allowed six hits and six runs, three earned. Bartley allowed six walks but got the run support he needed to still pick up the victory.

The teams will be back on the field tomorrow morning when they begin a doubleheader at 11:00 a.m.
