Thorobreds Defeat Oakland City, 8-5

Box Score Princeton, Ind. -- The Kentucky State baseball team defeated the Oakland City University Mighty Oaks, 8-5, in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
 
With the win, the Thorobreds have now won four out of their last five games and move to 6-26 overall. Oakland City falls to 3-12 overall.
 
Kentucky State scored all of their runs early in the game, taking a commanding 8-0 lead into the fifth inning.
 
SIAC Preseason All-Conference member Alexander Davie led the team offensively, going 3-for-4 from the plate with three RBI on the day. Sophomore Justin Cain drew a pair of walks and was hit by a pitch in his first three plate appearances. After reaching base safely on those first three at-bats, Cain stole a pair of bases and scored three runs for KSU.
 
Oakland City mounted a comeback in the second half of the game but fell short as KSU held on for the 8-5 victory.
 
Freshman Louis Patterson (1-0) earned the victory on the mound for the Thorobreds after pitching 4.0 strong innings of relief to close out the contest. Patterson allowed just one earned run and struck out three Mighty Oak batters on his way to the win.
 
Oakland City starter Omar Encarnacion (0-3) was given the loss after lasting just 3.1 innings. Kentucky State picked up five hits and seven earned runs against Encarnacion who walked five Thorobred hitters in his time on the mound.
 
Kentucky State returns home for a three-game series against conference opponent, LeMoyne-Owen. With heavy rainfall projected for Saturday, the games have been shifted to Sunday and Monday afternoon. The teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
