Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. – Despite rattling off nine straight points including five service aces from
Anjelique Kyle to start the match, the Kentucky State University Thorobrettes fell in four sets, 1-3 (27-25, 10-25, 18-25, 20-25), to the visiting St. Catharine College Patriots in a non-conference volleyball match on Wednesday evening at the Exum Center.
The Thorobrettes fought hard throughout the contest and had control of the match early, pushing their lead to as many as nine points in the opening set. However, St. Catharine rallied, even taking the lead briefly at 25-24 but KSU held on to take opening set, 27-25 after an emphatic solo block from freshman right side hitter,
Kirtrice Ploucha.
"The girls showed a lot of toughness tonight, we just didn't execute like I know we can," Kentucky State Head Coach
Christina Coleman said. "We have a lot of young student-athletes on our team so we will continue to work hard in practice and grow together as a team."
Kentucky State was led by
Emily Grieshaber who finished the contest with a match high 16 kills and freshman setter Kyle who set up her teammates all evening finishing with a season high 33 assists and just two assist errors.
St. Catharine was led by Rebecca Just who finished the match with 14 kills and setter Abbey Sorrells who compiled a match high 35 assists.
Next up for the Thorobrettes is the first SIAC West Cluster of the season on Sept. 13-14. The tournament, featuring schools from the SIAC West division, is being hosted by Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Ala.
