FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State University baseball team dropped the final game of their three-game weekend series against Morehouse College, 9-3, on Saturday afternoon.
KSU was able to generate eight hits during the game but failed to capitilize leaving nine runners on base.
In the bottom of the first inning,
Justin Cain gave the Thorobreds their first run when he scored after an error by the Morehouse left fielder allowed
Alexander Davie to reach first base. Davie then scored after
Jacob Brackett singled through the left side to put KSU on top, 2-0, after the first inning.
Kentucky State added another run in the bottom of the second inning when
Bryan Berry singled through the right side to score Reginald Grimes from second base.
Morehouse tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third inning.
Kentucky State got into trouble in the top of the eighth inning. Morehouse used five hits to put three more runs on the board and take a 6-3 lead.
Morehouse continued its momentum in the top of the ninth when it added three more runs to push their lead to the final of 9-3.
KSU starting pitcher
Cornell Brown was saddled with the loss for the Thorobreds after tossing 8.1 innings. Brown surrendered 15 hits and nine runs, eight earned, during the game.
Jalen Logan earned the victory for Morehouse after pitching a nine inning complete game. Logan gave up eight hits but just three runs, two of which were earned.
Next up for the Thorobreds is an April 1
st matchup against Asbury University. The road game will be played at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, Ky. with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. Whitaker Bank Ballpark is the home of the Lexington Legends, the Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros.
