Kentucky State Wins Two Against Morehouse

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State University baseball team defeated the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College twice on Friday afternoon. A 2-RBI homerun from Alexander Davie propelled the Thorobred's to victory in game one, 4-1. In game two, KSU scored seven runs in the first two innings then held on for a 7-3 victory.

GAME 1
Left fielder Alexander Davie put Kentucky State ahead, 2-0, in the bottom of the first inning when he hit a towering 2-RBI home run over the right center field wall that scored shortstop Ben Schroeder.

Morehouse got their lone run of the game in the top of the third inning when shortstop Trey Bartholomew doubled down the left field line to plate designated hitter Thomas Scott from third base.

Davie collected his third RBI of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning when he hit a double to centerfield that scored Schroder. Cornell Brown, who entered the game for Justin Cain in right field, then scored from third on a wild pitch to give Kentucky State the final run of their 4-1 victory.

Davie finished the game going 3-for-3 from the plate with 3-RBI and a run scored. Davie hit his second homerun in as many days after hitting a homerun against Cedarville University in yesterdays game.

Arefes Everette (3-3) earned the victory for KSU after tossing a seven inning complete game. Everette struck out four Morehouse batters while surrendering just one earned run in his time on the mound. For the game, Everette allowed five hits and walked two batters.

Matthew Flowers was given the loss after pitching six innings, surrendering six hits and four earned runs. Flowers struck out six Thorobred hitters and walked three.

GAME 2
In the second game of the day, shortstop Ben Schroeder got things rolling for KSU when he hit a leadoff solo homerun to put the Thorobreds ahead, 1-0, in the bottom of the first inning.

KSU took control with six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Center fielder Bryan Berry started things off with a 2-RBI single through the left side that plated Drew Bennett and Mike Swayne.

Kentucky State added two more when Jacob Brackett reached on an error by the Morehouse second baseman then advanced all the way to third base on a throwing error by the MC catcher. Davie and third baseman Kyle Clark scored on the sloppy series of plays to put KSU ahead 7-0 after two innings.

Morehouse answered with a run in the top of the third inning. Ryan Christian scored from third after Joshua Cox reached on an error by KSU shortstop Schroder.

Three Kentucky State errors allowed Morehouse to add two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, cutting the KSU lead to 7-3.

Brackett (1-1) was credited with the victory for KSU after throwing a seven inning complete game. Brackett struck out five Morehouse batters while giving up just five hits and three runs, none earned.

Morehouse starting pitcher Brian Thomas was saddled with the loss after lasting just 1.1 innings. Thomas surrendered four hits and six runs in his time on the mound.

After today's games, Kentucky State moves to 8-18 overall and gets back to .500 in SIAC action with a 5-5 record.

Morehouse College falls to 1-25 overall, 0-8 in SIAC play.

The two teams are back in action tomorrow afternoon for the final game of their three-game weekend series. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. at Alumni Field in Frankfort, Ky.
