This weekend the Kentucky State Thorobreds baseball team took on Lane College in three games. The Thorobreds fought against the dragons in a double header on Saturday and then a 9inning game on Sunday.
The first game on Saturday started at 1:15pm. The pitching match-up was James Coleman (KSU) vs. Johnny Ivey (LC).
The game began with Lane College scoring two runs at the top of the first with two hits and an KSU error. The Thororbreds remained scoreless as the dragons scored three runs at the top of the 3rdinning.
At the bottom of the 3rd Brian Berry had an excellent single to third, stole second and end-up scoring off a balk. Going into the 4th inning the score was KSU 1 and LC 5.
At the bottom of the 4th Jamaal Duncan started off the inning with a triple and Alexander Davie brought him in with a sacrifice fly out. At the top of the 5th the Dragons scored another run before KSU forced two straight outs.
Both teams were scoreless in the 6th inning.
The score was KSU 6, Lane College 2 to start the 7th inning. The Thorobreds held the dragons scoreless in the top of the 7th inning with outstanding fielding plays led by a highlight, diving, outfield catch from Raphael Amey. The Breds then turned up the offensive with 5 consecutive runs scored to win the game. The Breds win game one 7 to 6. James Coleman was the winning pitcher for KSU and Johnny Ivey was the losing pitcher for Lane College.
The matchup for game two was Arefes Everett (KSU) vs. Danny Reed. The Breds jumped out to an early lead scoring 4 runs in the second inning. Led by Kyle Clark, Marshall Howard, Gregory White, and Terry Russell.
The score remained 4-0 KSU throughout the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings with both teams turning up the defense. The Dragons were finally able to get on the scoreboard at the top of the 6th inning making the score 4-1, Thorobreds.
After going scoreless in the bottom of the 6th, the Breds were able to hold the Dragons scoreless in the top of the 7th inning, securing their 11th win of the season and their 10th in the SIAC.
KSU (11-21, 10-7 SIAC) battles Lane (3-28, 2-14 SIAC) again Sunday, April 15 at 12 noon at the KSU Baseball Field.
