Thorobreds Eliminated from Tournament Play after Grand Fight against Miles

Albany, GA--In game five of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Championship the #8 seeded Thorobreds battled #4 seeded Miles College. After nine innings of play, the Golden Bears triumphed over the Thorobreds in an 11-8 victory.

KSU started the game hot with a back-to-back singles by Andrew Ramsey and Bryan Berry. Ramsey marked the first run for the Breds, stealing home on a thrown to second base. In attempt to catch Berry stealing third, Miles' catcher Joshua Moore was charged with a throwing error, allowing Berry to score. KSU's third run came on a single by Jordan Cox.

The Golden Bears fought back in the bottom of the first inning. On two walks and a double, Miles loaded the bases with no outs. Bryon Ramsey scored the Golden Bears first run on a fielding error by first baseman, Greg White. Miles scored four more runs on     two hits to take a 5-3 lead heading into the second inning.

On a lead-off triple by Ramsey, KSU scored two runs off two hits and two errors in the top of the second to tie the game at 5-5. Miles went ahead 6-5 in the bottom of the second on a throwing error by KSU, allowing Julius Fain to score.

In the bottom of the fifth inning Miles scored five runs on four hits and one error, taking a commanding 11-5 lead over the Thorobreds. KSU made a valiant effort to overcome the deficit, scoring one run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth inning; but in the top of the ninth, KSU fell short of tying the game as the Golden Bears defeated the Thorobreds 11-8.

“I am proud of the way we played this week,” said Head Coach Warren May. “We are going home earlier than any of us wanted, but we fought hard and never gave up. We have a lot of work to do, but we are on the right track to turning the program around.”

With the win, Miles advances to play the loser of the Stillman-Albany State game today at 4 p.m. The Thorobreds end their season 7-32 overall and 6-6 in the SIAC.
