Thorobreds Suffer Loss to Benedict in First Round of SIAC Championship

Albany, GA--In game four of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Baseball Championship the #1 seed Benedict College Tigers faced off against the #8 seeded Thorobreds of Kentucky State University. During the second inning the Thorobreds put three runs on the scoreboard in favor of the Tigers by walking in three runs.


Although the Tigers gained the lead, Kentucky State would answer back the next inning to tie the score 3-3. Lamar Lewis, starting pitcher for the Tigers, controlled the mound until the top of the fourth inning. Relief pitcher Jonathan Ortega finished the game pitching 3 innings and striking out 7 KSU batters.

During the fifth inning the Tigers scored 10 runs to take control of the game. Brandon Gipson led the offensive attack for the Tigers totaling 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Christopher Miller also added 3 hits on the night with one RBI.

Kentucky State totaled 6 hits on the night with Matt Brown getting one hit and scored two runs for the Thorobreds.

With the victory Benedict faces off against the #4 seeded Claflin University at 1:00 p.m. and Kentucky State moves to the losers' bracket to battle #5 seed Miles College at 10:00 a.m.
