TUNICA RESORTS, Miss. – Both
Robert Johnson and
Ryan Courtney are positioned within the top four spots on the individual leaderboard as Kentucky State sits in fourth place as a team after the opening round of the 2026 SIAC Men's Golf Championship at Tunica National Golf and Tennis.
The Thorobreds opened the championship with a team score of 308, just six shots behind leader Miles, which finished the day at 302.
Johnson got off to a rocky start on the front nine, opening the round with four bogeys for a 4-over-par 40 heading into the back nine. He opened the turn with a birdie on hole No. 10, followed by birdies on holes No. 13, No. 16 and No. 17 to finish at even-par 70 and hold third place on the individual leaderboard.
Courtney matched each bogey on the front nine with a birdie to finish even-par 36. On the back nine, he recorded birdies on holes No. 14 and No. 16, but three bogeys led to a 1-over-par 73, placing him in a tie for fourth.
Garrison Barton finished the first round with an 80. Both
Jean-Marc Chevrotiere and
Brady Hensley rounded out the Thorobreds, as each carded an 83.
The second round of the championship will continue April 21, with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m.
