Kentucky State Takes SIAC Lead, Climbs to No. 2 in Super Region Two Following Win Over Lane

FRANKFORT, Ky.  — Kentucky State football strengthened its postseason position following a commanding 55-22 victory over Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opponent Lane College on Saturday, moving into first place in the conference standings and climbing to No. 2 in the NCAA Division II Super Region Two NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings.

The Thorobreds are ranked No. 13 nationally and No. 2 in Super Region Two with an NPI rating of 59.533, trailing only Edward Waters, which leads the region with a 59.566 rating.

Kentucky State's victory, coupled with Edward Waters' 45-24 loss to Benedict, moved the Thorobreds into first place in the SIAC standings as the regular season enters its final stretch.

The NCAA Power Index, implemented in Division II for the 2026-27 academic year, evaluates teams based on game results and strength of schedule and serves as a tool in determining NCAA championship selections. NPI rankings are updated throughout the season to reflect game outcomes and changes in opponents' ratings.
