FRANKFORT, Ky, - Kentucky State women's basketball head coach Amani Williams has announced the hiring of
Jay Jenkins as assistant coach for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
"I am ecstatic to have Coach Jay on our staff," said head coach Amani Williams. "He brings a plethora of knowledge about the game to help contribute to and build our program. His expertise in player development and experience at the Junior College national championship level will provide invaluable insight and guidance to our student-athletes."
Jenkins joins Kentucky State after spending two seasons as head coach at Southwestern Michigan College. In 2024–25, he led an all-freshman roster to a 21–10 record and helped two student-athletes advance to NCAA Division II programs.
During the 2023-24 season, he guided the Roadrunners to a 27–5 finish, winning both the MCCAA Western Conference and Great Lakes District B championships. The team earned a spot in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. Jenkins also coached standout guard Cameron Thomas, who transferred to Stetson University, earning ASUN Newcomer of the Year honors and playing a key role in the Hatters' conference championship run.
Before Southwestern Michigan, he served as head coach at Kaskaskia College in 2022–23, posting a 17–10 record. Several of his players moved on to NCAA Division I and II programs, including Taylor Austin (Charleston), Courtney Lampkin (Shorter), Stashia Hamilton (LeMoyne-Owen), Keva Wilson (Claflin), Tianna Rhodes (Bluefield State), and Taja Brown (Salem).
Jenkins is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a Liberty University graduate.
