FRANKFORT, Ky. — A late fourth-quarter rally was not enough for Kentucky State women's basketball as Albany State edged the Thorobreds 58-56 in the first round of the 2026 SIAC Women's Basketball Championship.

Amyah Adair-Mars led the Thorobreds with 10 points each. Seck anchored the defense with seven rebounds and three steals, while Adair-Mars added six rebounds.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle, as the lead changed five times in the opening period. Albany State edged the Thorobreds 14-13 heading into the second period.
Both defenses controlled the second quarter, combining for 17 turnovers. The Thorobreds took a brief 15-14 lead early in the quarter, but the Golden Rams maintained a narrow 27-26 advantage going into halftime.
Kentucky State continued its defensive intensity, forcing nine turnovers in the third quarter. A late surge from Albany State extended its lead to 41-39 heading into the final quarter.
The Thorobreds found their offensive rhythm, led by Asher, who hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 58-55 with nine seconds remaining in regulation. The final two seconds proved costly, as a Kentucky State turnover allowed Albany State to escape with a two-point victory.
