Jay Jenkins enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Kentucky State women’s basketball program, bringing a proven track record of player development, program-building, and postseason success at the junior college level.
Over the past three seasons, Jenkins has consistently guided student-athletes to excel both on the court and at the next level. Most recently, he served as head coach at Southwestern Michigan College, where he led an all-freshman squad to a 21-10 record during the 2024-25 season and helped two players advance to NCAA Division II programs.
In 2023-24, Jenkins steered Southwestern to a standout 27-5 record, capturing the MCCAA Western Conference and Great Lakes District B championships. His team earned a berth in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, while standout player Cameron Thomas went on to earn ASUN Newcomer of the Year honors and win a conference championship at Stetson University.
Prior to Southwestern, Jenkins spent the 2022-23 season at Kaskaskia College (NJCAA Division I), where he compiled a 17-10 record and mentored multiple student-athletes who went on to compete at the NCAA Division I and II levels, including Taylor Austin (Charleston), Courtney Lampkin (Shorter), and Stashia Hamilton (LeMoyne-Owen).
Known for his commitment to player growth and his ability to build winning cultures, Jenkins brings a wealth of experience and energy to the Kentucky State coaching staff.
