LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman Ariana Simmons secured a runner-up finish in the women's pole vault as multiple Thorobreds advanced to the finals on the opening day of the 2025 SIAC Track and Field Indoor Championship at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
Simmons became the first Thorobred to reach the podium, clearing 6 feet, 11.75 inches to earn a silver medal in the women's pole vault.
Sophomore
Yumana Lofton secured an automatic berth in the finals of the men's 60-meter dash, winning his heat with a time of 6.90 seconds. He also qualified for the men's 200-meter dash, clocking 21.97 in the prelims.
In the women's 60-meter dash, sophomore MyRajah Rankin advanced to the finals with a preliminary time of 7.82. She also qualified for the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 25.20.
Freshman Jada Murry reached the finals of the women's 60-meter hurdles after finishing in 10.27 seconds in the prelims.
Zhakeya Hawkins secured her spot in the finals of the women's 400-meter run, setting a personal best of 1:00.50.
Junior Desiree Poole added two points to the women's team total with a seventh-place finish in the weight throw, recording a mark of 38 feet, 9 inches.
The men's distance medley relay team of
Justin Smith,
Demarreon Green,
Joshua Merriweather, and
Roderic Walls finished fifth with a time of 12:12.38, earning four points.
The women's distance medley relay team of
Kanylah Young, Simmons,
Hailey Tucker, and Iyanna Thompson-Carson secured fourth place, clocking 15:51.02 to add five points to the team total.
Day two of the SIAC Indoor Track and Field will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the men's shot put.
