DANVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky State track and field kicked off their indoor season with a strong showing at the Centre First Chance Meet in Danville, Kentucky, highlighted by a fieldhouse record and multiple podium finishes across various events.
Yumana Lofton headlined the meet, setting a fieldhouse record in the men's 60-meter dash with a blazing time of 6.85 seconds to claim first place. In the men's triple jump, Lorenzo Johnson-Cutler leaped to victory with a mark of 45 feet, 11.5 inches (14.01 meters). Bryant Betton also earned gold, securing first place in the men's long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 10.25 inches (6.66 meters).
Kentucky State excelled in team relays, with the men's 4x400-meter team—Demarreon Green, Yumana Lofton, Justin Smith, and Joshua Merriweather—finishing third with a time of 3:32.59. The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Zhakeya Hawkins, Hailey Tucker, Alexandria Woods, and Iyanna Thompson-Carson also took third, clocking in at 4:17.72.
In the women's 400-meter dash, Zhakeya Hawkins led the team with a second-place finish in 1:01.45, while Iyanna Thompson-Carson followed in third at 1:02.93. On the field, Desire' Poole secured third in the women's shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 8 inches (11.48 meters).
Other top performances included Nigel Cochran, who took second in the men's triple jump with a distance of 43 feet, 0.25 inches (13.11 meters), and Justin Smith, who placed fifth in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.51. In the men's 400-meter dash, Merriweather finished fifth in 51.89 seconds, followed by Green in seventh at 52.68 seconds.
Additional highlights included Valencia Davis, who earned fifth place in the women's triple jump with a mark of 31 feet, 11.75 inches (9.75 meters), and Jaaliyah Biggers, who finished fifth in the women's long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 4 inches (4.93 meters).
