FRANKFORT, Ky.  – After an exciting 24-20 Homecoming win over Lane the Kentucky State football homestead continues as they host the Benedict Tigers (2-3, 2-1 SIAC) this Saturday, October 12^th at 1 p.m. inside Alumni Stadium.
 
Series at Glance
Saturday's contest will be the 19^th meeting between the two with Benedict holding a 10-8 series advantage over the Thorobreds. In their last meeting (Oct. 21, 2023) the Tigers defeated the Thorobreds 63-14 in Columbia, S.C.
 
A Glance at The Tigers
In his first year as head coach Ron Dickerson Jr. has led his team to a 2-3 overall record and 2-1 SIAC record. Both wins this season were against league opponents, on Sept. 19th they defeated Edward Waters 31-28 and Morehouse 21-5 on Sept. 28^th.  The Tigers met Lane in their second contest (Sept. 14) of the season and loss 32-27.
 
In their most recent matchup, the Tigers met non-conference opponent North Greenville and loss 38-21. Quarterback Charles Simmons threw for a season-high of 278 yards and the Tigers were held to season-low of 78 rushing yards. Isaiah Stephens led the defensive effort with 10 tackles.
 
From the Stable
In their last time out (Oct. 12) the Thorobreds defeated Lane in an exciting 24-20 Homecoming. Denim Johnson completed 16 of his 18 passes for a total of 180 yards and one touchdown. Cedric Ward led the rushing efforts with 92 yards on 13 attempts that included one touchdown. On defensive Lawrence McConnell had four solo tackles and three assisted for a total of seven tackles.
 
This season Johnson leads the Thorobreds with 198 rushing yards, 580 passing yards. Parrish leads Kentucky State with 198 receiving yards. Navy Curry has made the transition to defense this season and leads his team with 29 tackles, his teammate Trevon Pope follows closely with 28 tackles this season.
