Kentucky State women's basketball heads to Raleigh, North Carolina to open their 2022-23 season to a pair of Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponents St. Augustine and Shaw.
 
The Thorobreds will play 1-0 St. Augustine Falcons on Friday, November 18 at 6 p.m. in the Emery Gymnasium. St. Augustine opened their season to Barton College with a 67-57 victory. The Falcons were led by Dasmine Kasey who went 90 percent from the field to score points. Three more Falcons hit double digits Ariyanna Brown (14), Lauren Banks (13) and Taniyah Greene (11).
 
Kentucky State will close out the road trip against the 0-2 Shaw Bears on Sunday, November 10 at 2 p.m. The Bears have two losses this season against Millersville (59-41) and East Stroudsburg (64-51). Before meeting the Thorobreds the Bears will host Catawba on November 16.
 
Kentucky State finished the 2021-22 season 9-15 overall and 5-12 in SIAC play. During the SIAC Basketball Championship, the Thorobreds defeated Clark Atlanta 76-68 and advanced to the quarterfinals, where they met Tuskegee and fell 89-54. 
 
Kentucky State returned eight and added six newcomers to the roster during the offseason, Junior Nina Blade (F), Freshman Victory Vincent (F/C), Junior Nya Caruthers (G), Junior Lauren Powell (F), Junior Jasmine Elder (F), and Junior Kayla Thompson (F/C).
