Robinson Garrison inducted into USTFCCCA Hall of Fame

NEW ORLEANS - Kentucky State University Hall of Famer Hyacinth Robinson Garrison has been named to the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Track & Field Hall of Fame, the organization announced today (May 22, 2019). Robinson Garrison was inducted into the KSU K-Club Hall of Fame in 2016.

This is the 24th class to be inducted into the NCAA Division II Track & Field Athlete Hall of Fame which dates back to its opening in 1996. It ties 2015 for the smallest induction class that has made it into the hall over the past few years.

During her sophomore year at KSU, she developed into a world class high jumper. Robinson Garrison went on to earn All-American honors in the High Jump in 1985 by the USTFCCCA.

She had a major setback because of injuries, causing her to miss her entire junior season. Admittedly, she was unsure if she would ever compete again. But Robinson Garrison was determined and motivated to continue her dream as a top high jumper in America. She went home, set new goals, starting training and kept a positive attitude. All of this paid off as she returned her senior year to complete at the highest level.

Robinson Garrison stormed into the NCAA DII Indoor Championships in 1987 and captured the high jump title with a then-NCAA DII record of 1.73m (5-8). She became the first – and only – KSU female student-athlete in school history to win an individual national title.

Robinson is the third athlete in Kentucky State history to get inducted into the USTFCCCA NCAA DII Track & Field Athlete Hall of Fame, joining Randolph Williams (Class of 2013) and Jim Kempy (2018).
