Kentucky State Track and Field Earns Multiple Top Finishes at EKU Spring Invitational

RICHMOND, Ky. — Kentucky State track and field opened the outdoor season at the Eastern Kentucky University Spring Invitational which was, highlighted by a first-place finish, multiple podium efforts and strong depth across both track and field events.
 
Shamond McClain led the Thorobreds with a first-place finish in the men's triple jump at 48 feet, 4 inches. Curtis Bownes added a second-place finish in the men's high jump, clearing 6 feet, 2 1/2 inches, while Brayden Wilson placed fifth in the triple jump at 45 feet, 1 inch.
 
In the men's discus, Andrew Bownes finished fourth with a throw of 149 feet, 7 inches, followed by Dewayne Davis in fifth at 138 feet, 1 inch. Davis also placed 10th in the shot put with a mark of 43 feet, 1 inch.
 
On the track, Jeremiah Preston earned a third-place finish in the men's 400 meters in 50.21 seconds. Tahja Mims recorded a second-place finish in the women's 400 meters with a time of 58.52.
 
In relay action, the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Tayonne Turner, Joshua Merriweather and Preston placed third in 3:21.17. The women's 4x400-meter relay team also finished third, as Hailey Tucker, Mims, Bailiy Graham and Armoni Glenn posted a time of 4:06.90. The B team of Kylie Hollis, Sydney Jones, Lenayah Thomas and Laila Jackson placed fourth in 4:16.88.
 
In the women's 4x100-meter relay, the B team of Samiyah Rembert, Sydney Jones, Armoni Glenn and Zaria Robinson placed fourth in 50.25, while the A team of Bailiy Graham, Jaaliyah Biggers, Tahja Mims and Aleczandrea Coffie finished fifth in 50.34.
 
Jadon Wright led Kentucky State in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a fifth-place finish in 16.07 seconds, followed by Ja'Mann Avery (seventh, 16.77), Montae Ashford (ninth, 17.73) and Matthew Fuqua (10th, 18.12).
 
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Jada Murry placed seventh in 17.00 seconds, while Hailey Tucker finished 10th in 19.07.
 
Montae Ashford placed seventh in the men's 400-meter hurdles in 58.02 seconds, followed by Wright in ninth at 58.91.
 
Tayonne Turner finished 10th in the men's 200 meters with a time of 22.92, while Bailey Graham placed ninth in the women's 100 meters in 12.75.

Kentucky State Track and Field will head to Louisville, Ky. on March 28th for the Jim Vargo Invitational.
