Cheerleading teams announced

FRANKFORT- After a competitive recruiting season and tryouts, Kentucky State University head cheerleading coach Timothy Queen unveiled its 2019- 2020 cheerleading rosters.

Over 50 student-athletes, both female and male, participated in this process. Twenty one were selected for the gold team, while another 12 were selected for the green team. The rosters consist of 15 returners and 18 newcomers.

"I am excited about the upcoming year and this program as we continue to move KSU forward with Competitive Cheer," said Queen. "There's a lot of great talent and a dozen of level four and level five cheerleaders."

The gold team will travel for all football, all men's basketball games and away women's basketball games. They will also make regular appearances representing the University at alumni, athletic, charitable, and public relations activities.

The green team cheers for some home football and home women's basketball games. The Green squad will not travel.

The leaders of this year's program will consist two managers, Alexius Shorter and Damontre Mudd.

Sophomore Aleeah Rawlings (Harrisburg, KY) was named the head captain for the gold team, while senior Tyler Simmons (Detroit, MI) and senior Jameia Carr (Louisville, KY) will be gold team co-captains. Sophomore Jerin Middleton (St. Louis, MO) will serve as the green team captain, and junior Kalyn Brooks (Louisville, KY) will be the co-captain.

The program's choreography captain is Ashanta Stephens from Indianapolis, IN.

The gold team will consist of 14 ladies: Rawlings, Simmons, Carr, Stephens, Makayla Reeves (Louisville, KY), Kyree Robinson (Kankakee, IL), Arianna Jenkins (Louisville, KY), Shaiane Jackson (Lexington, KY), Jada Dill (Detroit, MI), Nautica Caldwell (Louisville, KY), Jezzalyn Jackson (Ellenwood, GA), Elaina Thompson (Cincinnati, OH), Jasmine Jackson (Lexington, KY), and Nima Mandiang (Louisville, KY). The seven males selected for the top team are: Aaron Odneal (Cahokia, IL), Ernest Adams (New Orleans, LA), LaQuantae Jackson (Louisville, KY), Kendrill Bibb (Louisville, KY), Dhareus Franks (Detroit, MI), Christian White (Hattiesburg, MS), and Darnell Crumpton- Stanford (Cincinnati, OH).

The green team will consist of 12 females: Middleton, Brooks, Eryn Johnson (Lexington, KY), Yasmine Harper (Lambert, MS), Kia Brooks (Louisville, KY), Ania Smith (Cincinnati, OH), Makayla Williams (Dayton, OH), Maya Jackson (Fresno, CA), Sapphire Hawkins (Louisville, KY), Alexus Smith (Lexington, KY), Aliyah Akram (Cincinnati, OH), and Aunique Blackwell (Akron, OH).

The competition team will be made up from the gold team and selected members of the green team. The 2019-2020 program's motto is Family-Focus-Revitalization.
