The Kentucky State University men's golf team shot a day two-low 300 Tuesday to move up seven spots, placing fourth in the Asbury Eagles Invitational at the Frankfort Country Club.
Junior
Rick McGraw (Hopkinsville, KY) shot a one-under 71 Tuesday, marking a six-shot improvement from Monday's score. The progress enabled McGraw to improve from 19th place to third to earn all-tournament honors.
Four of the five golfers all improved their scores from day one as the Thorobreds trimmed 18 shots from Monday's total. While McGraw's six-shot upgrade allowed him to move onto the all-tournament, it wasn't the best improvement for KSU.
That honor goes to sophomore Rob Duff (Frankfort, KY), who shot eight shots better Tuesday. Duff jumped 23 spots following a 73 on the second day. He placed tied for 20th place with an 81-73-154. Junior
Jeremy Kimbrough (Chattanooga, TN) also finished tied for 20th place with an 81-74-154.
Sophomore
Austin Fitzgerald (Owenton, KY), in his first collegiate event, shot on 80 on the first day and an 83 on the second to card a 163 – good for 43rd place. Junior James Axeline (Shelbyville, KY) finished with a 168 during the two-day event.
Kentucky State University travels to Peachtree, GA Monday for the three-day Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships.
