Jackson, Tenn.-Kentucky State University women's basketball came up short on the road, 72-59 to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference west divisional opponent Lane College on Saturday afternoon at J F Lane Gymnasium.

The Thorobrettes (7-13, 6-6) dropped only their second game over their last six and have now lost back-to-back games against division opponents. The Lady Dragons (4-16, 4-7) snapped a five-game losing dating back to a Jan. 4 matchup against Clark Atlanta University.

LC led through the eternity of the contest, jumping out to an eight-point lead after the first quarter at 24-16. KSU stayed within striking distance, pulling within four on more than one occasion, and never trailed by more than eight in the second and third quarters.Â

The fourth frame showed a surge by the green and gold pulling within one at 51-50 in the first two minutes after a pair of made free throws by freshman forward Erica Jones. LC followed up the KSU threat with a 14-2 run to pull away for the win.

Junior forward Jordan Campell continued her strong stretch of scoring by leading the Thorobrettes with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Campbell has scored 16 points or more in her last three games and has notched double-digit scoring in four of her last five games.

KSU will have a quick turnaround with its fourth straight road game, by visiting LeMoyne-Owen College on Monday. Earlier in the season on Nov. 30 KSU defeated LOC at the Exum Center, 63-61. Â
