Frankfort, Ky.—Kentucky State University women's basketball will welcome in rival Central State University on Saturday afternoon at the Exum Center for homecoming.
The Thorobrettes (9-12, 5-7) recently dropped a pair of games to LeMoyne-Owen College and Springhill College, but before the setback had won two straight. KSU currently sits in the middle of the pack of the SIAC West standings at fifth place. The Lady Marauders (15-6, 10-3) remain firmly at the top of the west division, following a 12-game win streak spanning from late December to early February. The win streak was recently snapped on Thursday when CSU dropped a road contest to Lane College, 88-71.
KSU lost the first meeting of the season between the two rivals back on Jan. 21, 69-57. Senior forward
Aliyah Gipson and junior forward
Erin Spencer led the way for the Thorobrettes accounting for a combined 23 points and 17 rebounds. After KSU had pulled the game within four to begin the fourth quarter, CSU rode the momentum of sophomore Mustafa Notter to the victory as she collected season-highs in points with 15 and rebounds with 13.
Junior forward
Brittani Rizzi continues to grab the attention of the conference as she ranks as the No. 11 scorer in SIAC with 13 points per game and was recently named the conference Newcomer of the week.
Quickly coming on as of late for KSU has been Gipson. The Louisville, Kentucky native has scored double figures in her last three games and five of her last six. She ranks as the team's No. 2 scorer and No. 3 rebounder.
KSU and CSU will tipoff at 4 p.m. ET, and the game will broadcast live on the
Thorobred Sports Network.
