Brown's Career Night Not Enough as WBB Falls to Lane, 69-56

Box Score Highlights

Frankfort, Ky.—
Kentucky State University women's basketball fell in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play to visiting Lane College, 69-56 at the Exum Center on Saturday afternoon.

"We couldn't get it going tonight on either end of the floor," said head coach Terrance Slater. "Our youth continues to plague us. We'll watch the film this week and correct our issues."

The Thorobrettes (2-6, 2-2) dropped their second conference match in four games and will move on to three consecutive non-conference road matchups. The Dragons (1-7, 1-3) picked up their first SIAC win of the young season and snapped a seven-game losing streak.

KSU found themselves in an early hole after a slow start, trailing by as much 10 in the second quarter. Aggressive play by senior center Alissa Brown and freshman forward Erica Jones pulled the Thorobrettes back within one at 26-25 after a 15-6 run, but LC closed out the half with a 31-27 lead.

The Dragons built on their lead with a strong third quarter, outscoring the host 21-9, putting KSU in a position of no return.

Jones finished with her second straight double-double with 11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in 28 minutes of play. Brown registered a career night with 17 points off of 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and pulled down seven rebounds off the bench.

Senior guard Brittani Rizzi picked up 13 points, hitting 4-of-8 from three-point territory.

KSU will have a week off between games and travel to Louisville, Kentucky to take on Bellarmine University on Dec. 9. The game against the Knights will be the first game of four on the road for the green and gold as they will visit McKendree University, Western Michigan University, and Clark Atlanta University over the next two weeks.
