WBB Suffers Setback to North Alabama in Season Opener

Box Score Florence, Ala.—Kentucky State University women's basketball dropped its season opener to the University of North Alabama 107-69 on Friday evening at Flowers Hall.

The Thorobrettes (0-1) fell victim to a third-quarter surge by the Lady Lions (1-0), falling behind early in the second quarter, with momentum staying in the home squads' favor for the duration of the contest.

"We didn't execute our game plan and didn't play together, when you mix both elements together against a good veteran team, nights like tonight will happen," said head coach Terrance Slater. "We will work hard to make corrections and get ready for our game tomorrow against Huntsville."

Turnovers proved to be the key as KSU committed 28 miscues with UNA scoring 31 points off those turnovers. The rebounding battle leaned heavily towards the Lady Lions with a 43-26 advantage, including 14 offensive rebounds.

Junior center Brooke Wallace led the Thorobrettes with a team-high 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and grabbed four rebounds. Freshman forward Eric Jones added nine points and tied for a team-high five rebounds off the bench.

The Thorobrettes will have a quick turn around and will play on Saturday at 2:30 pm ET against the University of Alabama in Huntsville at the University of North Alabama.
