Late Comeback Not Enough as WBB Drops Contest to FVSU, 71-65

Frankfort, Ky. - Kentucky State University women's basketball fell to SIAC foe Fort Valley State University on Saturday afternoon, 71-65 at the Exum Center.
 
KSU (4-8, 1-4) was led by junior forward Erin Spencer, who recorded a double-double off 19 points and 10 boards, both team-highs. Senior forward Aliyah Gipson added 10 points off a five-of-seven shooting performance for the home team.
 
KSU struggled from the line in the first half, netting two of its six attempts from the charity stripe. Despite the rough start from the line, KSU was still able to keep the game within reach after shooting 12-of-27 from the floor to trail 36-29 to the visiting Wildcats.
 
The Thorobrettes struggled offensively in the third quarter, being outscored 16-8 by Fort Valley State to trail 52-37 going into the final frame.
 
The home team heated up in the final stanza, going on a 23-11 run to cut the Wildcat lead to just three points with 1:44 remaining in the contest. Despite the red-hot fourth quarter, KSU was unable to mount a comeback as they fell 71-65.
 
The Thorobrettes will travel for SIAC action against Clark Atlanta University on January 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
