Frankfort, Ky.—Kentucky State University football will host Miles College for Homecoming at Alumni Stadium on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
The Thorobreds (2-4, 2-1) will take on a Golden Bears (3-2, 2-1) team who has defeated them six straight seasons. The game will be broadcasted live on the Thorobred Sports Network with links on ksuthorobreds.com
KSU is coming off its best offense performance of the season, totaling 320 yards of offense against Fort Valley State University. Freshman quarterback
Jules St. Ge proved to be a bright spot as he led the team in both passing and rushing yards while throwing a 75-yard touchdown pass to sophomore
Demetrius Anderson.
"When we went to fall camp, Jules (St. Ge) was splitting time at wide out and quarterback, but over the last month he has been solely concentrating on the quarterback position," said head coach
John L. Smith. "He's starting to get it, and we're starting to see him progress. He won't fully get it or understand everything about the position this season, but he's our guy, and we like what he's starting to accomplish."
The offense will face a tough task as the MC defense currently ranks as the #3 defense in the SIAC, allowing 282 yards per game, including over 170 through the air per game.
Defensively, the Thorobreds rank at the bottom of the conference, but it's due to the stiff competition they faced in the first half the season. KSU battled with FCS powerhouse Charleston Southern University, and the #25 ranked team in Division-II at Valdosta State University. Both games saw KSU give up over 45 points on the scoreboard. Against SIAC opponents, the Thorobreds are allowing a little over 11 points per game.
Senior linebacker
Travon Spencer is coming off a career-game where the Louisville native went wild, wrapping up 19 total tackles against FVSU.
"He played great," said Smith. "He was all over the field, and he has been our best player defensively. Day-in and day-out he tries to lead and do the right things while making sure everyone else is doing the same thing. Travon (Spencer) has the kind of maturity you want as a coach. He's a team captain, and he does a lot of things the right way."
With Saturday's contest being one of the biggest events of the year, fans are encouraged to arrive early and to partake in the festivities of Homecoming.
