Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State volleyball team concluded its 2015 home schedule with a 3-0 senior night loss to St. Catharine on Thursday at the Exum Center.
St. Catharine held off the Thorobrettes 25-23 in a closely contested first set before taking the next two sets by the scores of 25-15 and 25-19. Despite the loss, Kentucky State was able to celebrate its two seniors,
Kiara Rivera and
Altonia Taylor, who were playing their final home game. Rivera led all players with 14 digs, while Taylor had two kills.
In the first set, Kentucky State rallied back from a 15-8 deficit with six straight points, then took an 18-17 lead on kills by
Payton Richardson and
Tahje Ochs. It was the last lead the Thorobrettes would hold in the set, however, as St. Catharine broke a 22-22 tie with three of the next four points to take the set.
Though Kentucky State led early in the second set, the Patriots took over with a 15-1 run and went on to the 25-15 win. The third set went back and forth, with Kentucky State winning seven straight points to go up 7-1, only to see St. Catharine take the next six points to tie. The score was still tied at 15 when St. Catharine scored six straight points to pull away, setting up the victory.
Kirtrice Ploucha led Kentucky State with seven kills, while
Micah Rogers and
Payton Richardson each had six.
Anjelique Kyle added a game-high 25 assists with four aces.
The loss drops Kentucky State to 19-11 on the year, while St. Catharine improves to 25-11.
